Native Seeds/SEARCH was founded in 1983 in response to the concern of farmers, gardeners, Indigenous community members, and conservationists about the devastating loss of seed diversity. We operate a seed bank with nearly 2,000 heirloom, arid-adapted seed varieties and provide seed, education, and small grants to Indigenous growers, Southwestern farmers, community gardens, seed libraries, and individual gardeners.
During the winter months, when Native Seed/SEARCH can be found at the Rillito Park Market, they sell seasonal selections of their best-growing seeds and plant starts, as well as a selection of regional Southwestern foods and ingredients. You can also find a selection of free resources on gardening and seed-saving in the Southwest.
