Mi Pueblo Beef Jerky was born from love, tradition, and the courage to build something of our own
My name is Yvette Herrera, I was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. My journey with beef jerky began long before it became a business. Growing up, I watched my grandparents prepare homemade carne seca for the family — carefully seasoned, patiently dried, and always made with love. Without realizing it, I was learning a tradition that would one day shape our future.
In February 2022, when I had just moved to Tucson, I began making beef jerky as a small side hustle while I searched for stable employment. Sold to friends and acquaintances, simply sharing a product that reminded me of home. Shortly after, I became a middle school teacher, and life settled into regular 8-to-5 routines. Even so, I never stopped making jerky. I prepared it whenever I could find the time — seasonally, casually — nothing formal, nothing serious.
But in my heart, the dream was always there.
People would try my jerky and instantly fall in love with its handcrafted, homemade flavor. They encouraged me. They asked for more. And slowly, the idea of building a formal business grew stronger. Still, the timing wasn’t right. I had full-time jobs and responsibilities.
That changed in December of last year, when I made the decision to dedicate myself to Mi Pueblo Beef Jerky full-time and finally bring to life the business I had dreamed about for years.
For four years, we have built this dream with love, patience and respect.
Mi Pueblo Beef Jerky is more than a product. It is tradition, partnership, resilience, and the flavor of home — shared with our community.
