Thanks from our Farmers Table

As we begin with a fresh start and a new year, looking back I can honestly say that 2010 was one of best of the six years I have been managing the markets. Each year brings with it a new crop of vegetables, fruits, vendors and customers and each year our growth continues. Our customers and vendors are all very generous in their spirit, and we have been able to expand our Farmers’ Market offerings with the opening of our newest market at Jesse Owens Park on the east side of Tucson. It is a blessing to know that we have so much support to help sustain the agriculture heritage in our region.

First and foremost, our markets could never be what they are today without the relationship and dedication of over 150 farmers, ranchers and vendors and the tireless effort of my staff; Nick Szumowski, Tere Clark and Brian Larkins.

To our wonderful customers: Because of your support and dedication to your lifestyle choices, you are the ones that have made the local food movement a success. We truly love our customers, and you have in turn shown us your trust by bringing along family and friends who have never been to our markets – what a great compliment!

As I approach the New Year, my dedication to the farmers’ success continues to motivate me to bring to the market new educational opportunities like local chef demonstrations, growing seminars and specialty food festivals. My quest is to educate and motivate, and to continue to develop small business opportunities for those that nourish our lives with their efforts, dedicating their lives to agriculture, and local food.

I thank you for supporting me and my farmers’ market family.

Wishing you the freshest beginning for the new year, from our farm table to yours.
