Weekend festival celebrates the chile pepper

Arizona Daily Star • September 08, 2015

With the summer swelter lingering on, Heirloom Farmers Markets will celebrate a different kind of heat this weekend with its 12th Annual Chile Festival.

The three-day series of events kicks off Friday at Trail Dust Town, 6541 E. Tanque Verde Road, continues at the Oro Valley Farmers Market on Saturday and culminates with the Grande Chile Fiesta at the Rillito Park Farmers Market on Sunday. All the markets run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Vendors will offer chile-themed food, including freshly roasted green chiles, chile spices, tamales and salsas, and an abundance of chile specialties.

Sunday’s Grande Chile Fiesta at the Rillito Park Farmers Market Pavilion will feature live music and a chef demonstration by Agustin Kitchen’s Ryan Clark using fresh market ingredients.

Roasted chiles may be pre-ordered from Red’s Roasters and picked up at any of the three events.
