Rillito Park 2 Year Anniversary Celebration

Heirloom Farmers Markets is pleased to announce their 2nd Anniversary celebration at the Rillito Park Food Pavilion (4502 N. 1st Ave.) happening on Sunday, November 6th from 9am to 1pm!  The last 2 years have been absolutely amazing and Heirloom is just getting warmed up.  Hot off the heels of a packed Chile Festival in September, the anniversary party will serve to acknowledge the support of the market vendors and thousands of weekly customers.

The anniversary celebration will include a visit from County Board Supervisor, Sharon Bronson, who will address the crowd. There will also be a featured chef demo from Executive Chef Ryan Clark of Casino del Sol and rippin’ live bluegrass music from Tucson’s own Cadillac Mountain.

Over 2 years ago, Heirloom partnered with Pima County to open Tucson’s first permanent farmers market pavilion at Rillito Park. Designed to be an anchor destination in the community, the pavilion showcases the bounty of food in the region and has dramatically enhanced the economic vitality of Tucson’s local food system. Heirloom Farmers Markets has been serving Baja Arizona for more than 15 years, and operates the largest farmers market system in Southern Arizona. Heirloom’s Sunday market gained notoriety at St. Philip’s Plaza and has continued to grow since moving to the Rillito Park Food Pavilion location in November of 2014. More than 80 vendors and 1,500 weekly shoppers currently participate in the Sunday market with numbers steadily climbing each season.

Of the many accomplishments Heirloom has had at Rillito Park, the most impactful may be the program to accept SNAP and double the purchasing power up to $20, with the additional portion to be spent on local fruits and vegetables. This is possible thanks to a recurring $10k grant awarded from Wholesome Wave. These dollars don’t just buy local food – they end up in the hands of nearby growers, and then radiate out through the community, bolstering the economy and improving public health. Plans are also underway to raise funds to build an additional 4th ramada, as well as other upgrades to the pavilion and surrounding area.
