Earth Month at the Farmers Market
Celebrate Earth Month with Heirloom Farmers Markets! Join us every Sunday during the month of April at the Rillito Park Farmers Market as we honor the local farmers, producers and local non-profits who make sustainable living in the Sonoran Desert possible. Their dedication helps strengthen our local food system, and HeirloomFM is proud to support their work by connecting our community with seasonal, locally grown food and the knowledge to make informed choices.
Earth Month at the farmers market is a celebration of sustainability and community. These markets provide fresh, locally grown food that’s not only healthier, but also better for the environment. They support sustainable farming practices, reduce waste, and strengthen local economies. By shopping at a farmers market, you’re making a conscious choice to live more sustainably while supporting the farmers and producers who make it possible.

Challenge yourself TO “MAKE EVERY DAY EARTH DAY” AT THE FARMERS MARKET AND BEYOND with these simple tips:
- Bring your own bags and baskets for carrying your market bounty. We also have beautiful and sturdy HeirloomFM canvas tote bags for purchase at the Market Information Booth.
- Bring glass storage containers and cloth produce bags and ask that your items be packaged in these more sustainable options.
- Bring your own reusable napkins, utensils, bottles and straws.
- Ask vendors if they can reuse containers, as many will. Otherwise repurpose the container at home.
- Buy vegetable starts, seeds and native plants for your home gardens.
- Bike or walk whenever you can.
- Take home your recyclables if recycle bins are not available.
- Compost your food scraps at home. Make your own compost bin at home or sign up for a community compost program, like the FREE FoodCycle Compost Program. Sign-up and complete the training and you’ll receive a compost bucket that you can conveniently drop-off at multiple locations across Tucson.
- Shop local and support farmers. Many farmers use regenerative farming practices which leave the earth in better shape than when they began. Get your produce from the farmers market for a healthier earth and more vibrant food system.
